Notes The Cleveland Fed Survey of Regional Conditions and Expectations (SORCE) Indexes serve as timely indicators of economic activity in the Fourth District of the Federal Reserve System, which covers all of Ohio and parts of Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

The indexes are based on responses to a survey of business and community leaders in the District. Each index is the difference between the percentage of the survey respondents reporting increases and the percentage reporting decreases in areas such as demand, employment, and inflation. Measures calculated this way are often called diffusion indexes (DIs).

Observations are dated by the average survey response date. The survey is usually collected over eight days, approximately five weeks before each FOMC meeting.

Due to changes in frequency, the employment question was omitted from both the November 2014 survey and the May 2015 survey.
